Deion Sanders claims some media members are ‘really mad’ Colorado beat North Dakota State

For the second straight college football season, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes opened up Week 1 with an exciting, one-score win. Defeating FCS powerhouse North Dakota State in a 31-26 victory in Boulder.

Heading into Week 1 and throughout the offseason, Sanders has bumped heads and gone back and forth with the media. First refusing to speak to a reporter from CBS in early August followed by himself and the Colorado program banning Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler from asking Sanders questions at press conferences.

There’s no doubt that Sanders’ bombastic personality has helped bring an unprecedented amount of attention to a Colorado program that was under the radar nationally before his arrival. But with that has come a polarization of the program that has some rooting for the Buffaloes and others rooting against. And following Thursday’s game, Sanders accused media members of the latter when they faced the Bison.

“Some of you [are] upset that we got the W, some of you really mad we didn’t get the L,” Sanders said to close out his post-game press conference . “So God bless y’all, you’ll have to wait again till next week.”

Sanders’ statement came following a question asked by CBS Colorado reporter Romi Bean , a reporter that he hand-picked to ask a question. Highlighting their positive working relationship in a funny back-and-forth exchange that clearly alluded to his previous strife with the CBS media outlet.

“First of all, you know Romi’s with CBS right?” Sanders asked.

“Yes. Romi Bean, CBS Colorado, getting my question in,” Bean replied as media members laughed.

“Y’all forgot that right? This is my girl, so that’s why you can’t read into a lot of stuff. Because a lot of stuff is just, I’m setting you up for something else. But y’all forgot that. Don’t we do a show every week?” Sanders asked Bean.

Bean confirmed that she and Sanders do a show every week and their latest was around 20 minutes. Further working towards clearing his name with CBS after also clarifying things are ‘good now’ between himself and Eric Christensen of CBS News Colorado earlier this month. The CBS reporter whose question he refused to answer because of his employer in a moment that went viral.

Keeler of the Denver Post however will likely not be seeing peace offerings from Sanders any time soon, with Colorado deeming his reporting of the Buffaloes as ‘sustained, personal attacks on the football program’ and specifically their head coach. Using phrases such as “false prophet,” “Deposition Deion,” “Planet Prime,” “Bruce Lee of B.S.,” and others in his reporting that led to his ban of asking questions at press conferences.

Next up Colorado takes on Nebraska in a Week 2 rematch of last year’s exciting game, which will likely come with even more attention storylines this time around.
