Morgantown — Penn State has released its first availability report of the 2024 season. The No. 8 Nittany Lions and every other Big Ten team must list which players are out and which are questionable two hours before kickoff. They must do so regardless of whether or not they are playing a league game or non-conference tilt.

Head coach James Franklin’s team is at Milan Puskar Stadium today to take on West Virginia . The visitors will be without quarterback Jaxon Smolik, tight end Khalil Dinkins, defensive end Mylachi Williams, linebackers Kari Jackson and Keon Wylie, defensive end Mason Robinson, defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam, receiver Peter Gonzalez, tight end Jerry Cross, and linemen Sam Siafa, Liam Andrews, T.A. Cunningham, De’Andre Cook who are all listed as OUT. No Nittany Lions are questionable.

Penn State is an 8.5-point favorite on a warm and possibly rainy day in “Almost Haven.” Kickoff is set for Noon ET on FOX. A sellout crowd is expected.

“I don’t know if disrespect is the right word, but maybe they’re getting the least appreciation in the country, in my opinion,” Franklin said on the Penn State Coaches Show Thursday night. “Under-ranked, undervalued, whatever you want to say. They won nine games last year, and if you watch the Houston game, they really [should have] won 10.”

“Their personnel is as good as [head coach] Neal [Brown] has had since he’s been there,” Franklin said. “And we’re going there [to Morgantown]. They’re saying this is the biggest home opener they’ve had in 30 years. You can’t get a ticket. It’s sold out. It’s going to be a heck of an environment, a really challenging opening game, and I think they’ve got the team to back it up.”

Penn State will appear on FOX in the network’s ‘BIG Noon Kickoff’ game of the week. It played in that contest three times in 2023.

FOX’s top broadcast team of Gus Johnson (play-by-play), Joel Klatt (color commentator), and Jenny Taft (sideline reporter) will be on the call.
