The Michigan Wolverines sent out senior Davis Warren as the starting quarterback in Saturday night’s 30-10 win over Fresno State. It was an up-and-down night overall for the offense with Warren finishing 15-for-25 for 118 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

But the moment was a culmination of a multi-year journey at Michigan that started with him as a walk-on and an emergence into one of the most coveted roles in college football as a chance to quarterback a defending national champion.

“I just felt proud of the way I performed in camp, and I think once that next morning hit, it was like, ‘Man, now it’s time to really win football games,’” Warren said after the game. “That switch flipped naturally for me, and I just knew this time needed to rely on me and I needed to be a guy that they could count on.”

There were peaks and valleys in the win for the Wolverines, and there is a lot of work to do before next week’s game against Texas. Warren says this motivates him.

“That just keeps putting things in perspective and reminds me of my why,” Warren said. “Why I want to be out there every day and work my tail off for these guys and this team.

“I’m ready for this opportunity, ready to make the most of it and I’m proud of us.”

Speaking of Texas, the latest Vegas odds were revealed after the dust settled on Saturday night’s game. FanDuel has the Longhorns as a 6.5-point favorite heading to Ann Arbor next weekend with the over/under for total points scored at 49.5.

The Michigan-Texas matchup will kickoff at noon eastern on Sept. 7 with Fox carrying the broadcast as part of its Big Noon Saturday coverage.

    Michigan quote of the day

“Really, I thought Davis did a good job putting the football where it needs to be. The one pick, we tell our guys on the sideline, at some point we’ve got to go up and you’ve got to go play defense, too. You’ve got to go get the ball. But I thought [Warren]  really did a great job controlling the offense, and I thought 18 did a great job, as well.”
