Michigan football podcast: Balas and Skene on O-line vs. Fresno State, more

Michigan handled Fresno State, 30-10, using smothering defense to pick up a win in the opener. The offense, though, is a work in progress, and there are concerns on that side of the ball heading into a game with Texas.

Head coach Sherrone Moore was pleased overall, however, and insisted the group would get better.

“It was really just one guy here, one guy there … things that we’ll fix and we’ll get better at,” Moore said. “… I was really proud of how we grinded it out on the ground, was really proud of how the offensive line started to come off the ball. Then as we knew we can go to 18 [ Colston Loveland ] in the red zone, and he did a great job making a play. It was a great throw by Davis Warren]. I think these guys did a really good job all night with their connection.”

Michigan D-line transplant Dom Giudice started at center and improved, though he was replaced by Greg Crippen for 13 snaps in the first half. He came back in and got movement in the second half.

“Offense — it takes time. You’re not going to be the same product you were in week two,” the Michigan head coach continued. “You’ll be better next week. So, it’s going to take time for them to jell. They needed to get that last drive to get what it feels like to be together and grind through a game, and it’s going to help prevail for us, for sure.

” … We’re going to always try to be perfect. The defense played really good, but there are some things they want to get better at. Offense, we had our ups and downs, but we’re going to try to get better. There’s not really a time where everyone thinks we’ve reached the pinnacle of where we needed to be, because I think when you do that, you’ve already lost. So for us, all the phases — special teams, as well — we’re just going to strive to be better.”
