PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - A Smiths Station man who is behind bars and charged with capital murder made his first appearance in court Thursday morning. Jeffery Spurlock is accused of shooting and killing Jacob Sanes at a Phenix City bar back in May. The Russell County District Attorney’s Office is seeking the death penalty.

SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WTVM) - A 42-year-old man has died after being struck by a pickup truck while driving a motorcycle. According to Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones, the crash occurred late Wednesday night in the 5000 Block of Lee Rd 248 (Summerville Rd) - Joseph D Stewart, 42, of Smiths Station, was pronounced deceased on the scene at 9:45 p.m.
