Ottawa Motorcyclist Injured In Hit-And-Run
A crash that injured a motorcyclist in Ottawa has police looking for the other driver involved. Forty-one-year-old Robert Matlock of Ottawa was riding his Harley-Davidson Friday afternoon on East Dayton Road when he says a vehicle pulled out in front of him. In attempting to avoid the vehicle, Matlock swerved and ended up in a ditch. His bike had to be towed and he was taken by ambulance to OSF in Ottawa.

With half of 2024 in the books, many police and fire departments are using the time to reflect on their number of calls for service. In Streator, the police department reports just shy of 8,000 calls of service in the first 6 months. A number standing out to the department is 188 domestic incidents reported so far in 2024. That equates to about 1 a day in Streator. More than a dozen domestic battery arrests were made.

With half of the year now in the books, the Spring Valley Fire Department is on pace for handling a record number of calls. According to numbers released on the fire department's Facebook page, they responded to 247 calls of service thru June, which is a record. There were slightly more EMS, or medical care related calls than fire calls over the first half of 2024.
Streator Woman Accused of Possessing Firearm & Meth
The Grundy County Proactive Unit arrested two individuals after a traffic stop in the 200 block of Earl Street in Morris on June 27th. Shelby Newell, 31, of Streator was charged with the Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and the Unlawful Possession of meth, both class three felonies and two counts of the Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, both class four felonies.
