Rising Mississippi River creates concern in river towns
ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) -- From Hannibal to Kimmswick, river town residents and elected officials are keeping close watch on the rising Mississippi River. The National Weather Service is predicting the river will crest at 23 feet on Saturday in Hannibal, which is in the moderate flood stage. In response, the town installed its five flood walls on Tuesday.
Marcellus Williams, MO man on death row, will get to present DNA evidence, argue innocence
A Missouri man scheduled to be executed in September will get a chance to present a court with DNA evidence he believes will exonerate him. Marcellus Williams will get a hearing on Aug. 21, at the request of St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell. The prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to vacate the conviction after reviewing the case and discovering “clear and convincing evidence” that Williams is innocent.

Schenk Road Bridge over Hwy. 21 closing for repairs until late September
The Schenk Road bridge over Hwy. 21 in Otto will close for repairs until late September, the Missouri Department of Transportation recently announced. The closure begins at 8 a.m. Monday, July 8. Both the Schenk Road bridge and Schenk Road leading to the bridge will close to traffic during the bridge repair project, the department said in a written statement.
Cedar Hill Elks look to boost membership with drive
The Cedar Hill Elks will hold a membership drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Elks Lodge, 8430 Industrial Drive, in Cedar Hill. Festus to renovate Red Barn venue at Crites Park
It won’t be too long before festivities are once again held at the Red Barn at Larry G. Crites Memorial Park in Festus. The Festus City Council voted 7-0 June 24 to award a $434,000 contract to Hankins Construction in St. Louis to renovate the building and demolish a silo that stands next to the barn. Board member Bobby Venz was absent from the meeting.
