Otto minors, majors wrap up season’s final games
The Little League season ended for the Otto majors and minors team with their final home games against Thermopolis. Porter Aagard pitched the first three innings for the Rattlers. Thermopolis scored two runs in the first inning and Otto responded with Jaxon Buck getting a hit that earned him a single and eventually stealing home for the only run for the Rattlers in the bottom of the first.
Fungal disease wreaks havoc on area’s elm trees
When Veda Gerrard visited Whaley Cemetery in Shell in May, she noticed the elm trees ringing the property appeared sickly. Later, she found similar symptoms in two elm trees on her own property and her concerns mounted— she put it down to the warm winter, sudden cold snap, and wet spring, but all of them and so suddenly? Gerrard began making calls, wondering if there was an outbreak or new invasive pest in the Basin and if there was any chance she might be able to save her trees.
Scattered Showers and Storms for the Weekend, Drying Out Next Week
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Overnight, temperatures will likely fall into the 50s and a few spots in the 40s for low temperatures. mostly clear skies settle in, but we do have the possibility of some isolated showers after midnight. Tomorrow, some scattered showers will form and we could see a few containing some rumbles of thunder. High temperatures in Rapid City getting up to around 79°. Future cast is showing that we do have the chance for some isolated showers tonight that become scattered tomorrow. But our best day for showers and storms comes on Sunday. Good news is by Monday. We start to completely dry out across all of western South Dakota. Throughout the overnight hours, temperatures drop into the 40s and 50s and we do see mostly clear skies. We still can’t rule out the possibility of a few isolated showers or storms. Tomorrow, temperatures make it into the 70s and 80s across kota territory. We will see scattered showers start to form around lunchtime, but the storms could contain a few rumbles of thunder here and there. The next three days in Northeast Wyoming and the northern Hills shows that we are going to see drier conditions in Wyoming, but some more chances in the hills for some showers and storms. Rapid City through the weekend Seese shower and storm chances continue but by Monday, those chances decrease to zero. For next week, the drier conditions allow for the temperatures to quickly increase into the upper 80s by Wednesday. By Thursday and Friday 90s are looking likely for Rapid City.
