Local law enforcement in Westminster has released information related to an incident that allegedly unfolded in the area of the popular McKay Lake on August 12, urging the public to exercise caution.

According to the police department, a woman was walking on the footpath along the north side of the lake in broad daylight at about 10 a.m. when a male approached her, grabbing her backside before running away.

The victim of the alleged assault immediately called 911 to report the encounter and was able to walk to the McKay Lake parking lot.

Westminster Police Department officers, along with officers from Broomfield responded to the scene with boots on the ground and a drone in the air, searching for a male suspect that the female victim described as white and in his 30s with a buzzcut hair style and a gray zip-up jacket. The suspect was also wearing black pants and sunglasses, and may have been wearing a red shirt.

Despite law enforcement's efforts, no suspect was located.

As a result of the reported incident, law enforcement will be upping their patrols in the area. It's also been requested that the public stay diligent and report any suspicious activity to non-emergency dispatch at 303-658-4360.

McKay Lake is home to numerous trails and a bike park, located in the midst of many homes in Westminster.
