A nice night for fireworks
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - As we head into the evening hours of Independence Day, it’s looking like most of our region will stay dry this evening. There exists a slight chance of storm development southeast of the KS Turnpike between 6 and 8 PM, but that narrow window will be closing just as the sun begins to set. Conditions are much cooler and drier for the next 8 days.
Wichita storm damage includes car crushed by fallen tree
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A car was crushed by a tree during Wednesday night’s storm in northwest Wichita. Danielle McVey that at around 2 a.m. Thursday, she was asleep inside her home on Westridge Court. Her mom and sister were awake and they saw the tree come down. Nobody was hurt, except for McVey’s feelings. Two other cars were damaged.

Wichita hospital warns of increasing disease cases with children
Pediatricians in the Ascension Medical Group are reporting an increase in cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HMFD) and mononucleosis among children in the Wichita area. HFMD and mono are highly contagious and they are often spread through close contact, including sharing drinks, utensils and other personal items. HMFD mainly affects children under the age of 5, causing fever, sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. Mono is more common in adolescents and young adults, with the symptoms including fever, sore throat, and fatigue.
