Local rancher named operations director at Pioneers Bluffs
MATFIELD GREEN — Pioneer Bluffs Board of Directors has selected Sammy Jo Peterson as the new Operations Director of the nonprofit, historical Flint Hills ranch. “We have gone through an exhaustive search and we are excited to have Sammy Jo’s enthusiasm, knowledge of agriculture, community relationships, and eagerness,” said Nancy Mattke, Board President. “She will do great in spreading the Pioneer Bluffs mission to preserve and share the ranching heritage of the Flint Hills into the future of the organization.”

Emporia’s latest mural is almost finished, and it’s ready to be celebrated as part of the city’s First Friday Art Walk. The mural is on the north side of Jack’s Lawn and Pool at 829 Commercial, the featured presenter for Friday’s event. Wichita hospital warns of increasing disease cases with children
Pediatricians in the Ascension Medical Group are reporting an increase in cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HMFD) and mononucleosis among children in the Wichita area. HFMD and mono are highly contagious and they are often spread through close contact, including sharing drinks, utensils and other personal items. HMFD mainly affects children under the age of 5, causing fever, sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. Mono is more common in adolescents and young adults, with the symptoms including fever, sore throat, and fatigue.
