Sheriff investigating death of Kansas teen in crash near lake
DOUGLAS COUNTY—A Kansas teen died in an accident near Clinton Lake in Douglas County. The victim of the crash has been identified as 17-year-old Brody Minton of Lawrence, according to a media release from the Douglas County Sheriff. Family members reported him missing on Monday and law enforcement had attempted to find him. Douglas County sheriff's deputies searched Monday and Tuesday searched extensively including the campgrounds at Clinton Lake and were working to locate his vehicle in the area.

A medical emergency at the Sunflower State Games last year became a catalyst for change for one Emporia family. On July 16, 2023, Reagan Herrman was playing basketball when her heart stopped on the court at Washburn University and she stopped breathing. After four minutes, two cycles of CPR and one shock from an AED, she began breathing again. She was subsequently diagnosed with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT).

Hays Medical Center nurse receives international award
The International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) honored Jessica Albers, MFS, BSN, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P. with the Virginia A. Lynch Pioneer Award in Forensic Nursing, the Association’s highest award, at a presentation held at Hays Medical Center (HaysMed) in Hays, Kansas on Friday, June 28, 2024. Albers is Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner at Hays Medical Center. The award is named for Virginia Lynch, known globally as the “mother of forensic nursing.”
