Jaxson Dart is already embracing the 'rat poison' talk for 2024

"Rat poison" is becoming a popular phrase in college football.

Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart doesn't seem worried about it.

In late June, Lane Kiffin talked about Nick Saban's advice to his team about avoiding "rat poison" when it comes to talk about his team's success and expectations. Despite all of that talk about steering away from talk of success, Dart seems to be taking a different approach by leaning into the national championship expectations.

"The motivation is we want a national championship," Dart told On3's Jake Thompson .

Dart knows what the Rebels are capable of. He helped lead Ole Miss to a 19-7 record over the last two seasons as the full-time starter. During that span, he's thrown for over 6,300 yards with 43 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, adding another nine scores on the ground.

Ole Miss may play tough competition in the SEC, but they'll have the benefit of an expanded 12-team College Football Playoff bracket heading into 2024. The program hasn't won a national title since 1962, but another strong season like their 11-2 run last year could be enough to get them into the playoff and give them a chance.

The program also sees the return of Dart and other key contributors from last year. Star wideout Tre Harris had nearly 1,000 receiving yards in 2023 and is expected to take on an even bigger role this year. Meanwhile, an influx of transfers will give the team a massive boost, particularly up front defensively with the arrivals of Walter Nolen and Princely Umanmielen.

Just don't tell Kiffin what his quarterback is saying about the rat position.
