The Ole Miss contingency was a major highlight on Monday at SEC Media Days. Head coach Lane Kiffin arrived in Dallas, Texas, to discuss the Rebels' high expectations for the 2024 season.

Kiffin was joined by QB Jaxson Dart , WR Tre Harris and DT Walter Nolen at the conference's annual event. Dart was a major talking point as the quarterback in Kiffin's system is always the straw that stirs the drink. Kiffin complimented Dart's leadership skills among other attributes, but when Dart stepped to the podium it was clear that he is aiming to take a major leap in the intangibles that come with playing the most important position in sports.

“There’s a lot of things I want to improve on. I want to be like an OC out there,” said Dart, in the spring. “I want Coach (Charlie) Weis to be able to trust me to call my own plays if I have to.”

Weiss Jr. and Dart are entering their third season together in Oxford and it will be critical that those two are on the same page in the Rebel's fast-paced offense.

"I think growth just kind of naturally happens when you're in a system for consecutive seasons, but at the same time I feel like I've grown a ton in just like my leadership qualities and being able to make those relationships with my teammates so that they can trust me in high intense moments, you could say," Dart told reporters on Monday.

"But I think the biggest thing for me through my growth has been leadership and being able to kind of bring along the guys, set a standard and expectation."

The expectations for Ole Miss are the highest they've been in program history. With a roster loaded with talent retained from last year's team as well as the No. 1 transfer portal class, anything short of a College Football Playoff appearance will be considered a failure, especially consider the Rebels' favorable conference schedule.

Dart is built for the big stage and has a supporting cast capable of contending for a national title. There is no question that Dart is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the college game right now, but it will be the intangibles that could separate him from the rest of the quarterbacks in the SEC.
