This upcoming season has the potential to be significant for several coaches who are believed to be on the hot seat. It also has the potential to be important for a few coaches who have come close to making a breakthrough but have not achieved it yet.

Lane Kiffin is one of those coaches. Kiffin has led the Ole Miss Rebels to 10 or more wins in two of the last three seasons, with the team finishing in the top 11 of the College Football Playoff rankings in those two seasons.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum said this season could be very revealing about Kiffin. Finebaum feels he's made the Rebels into a contender, but it's now time to get them over the hump.

"I think he has done that," Finebaum said. "I think he's done it through the portal. So, ultimately, this season is going to be very revealing about Lane Kiffin. If he can't get it done now, I think that he will grow frustrated and probably look elsewhere."

Finebaum said that if Kiffin can get it done, it is "self-explanatory" what the future will hold for Ole Miss and Kiffin. Finebaum also mentioned that Ole Miss has a favorable schedule this year, especially at the start of the season.

Finebaum stated that the Ole Miss-LSU game could potentially eliminate one of the teams from the conference race. He believes it is one of the most significant games of the year, which is currently being overlooked. If Kiffin can have the season many believe he can, he could lead Ole Miss to its first-ever College Football Playoff.
