Before catching a wave at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica last Saturday, Peter Schultz had already secured two titles in the amateur competition for surfers over 40. This year, he was the Kahuna Kupuna, the event's namesake, which is Hawaiian for "Big Chief Wise Elder," as he was the oldest surfer at the competition at age 74. He was also the returning Kahuna Kupuna from the previous year.
