Local Playwright, Alum to Present Free Play at Bandshell in August
HAWTHORNE, NJ - A local playwright and Hawthorne High School alum is presenting her latest production at the town bandshell with two dates in August. Estelle Barbieri has written and directed the play “Out of Fuel”, which is to be performed at the town bandshell on Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10 at 7 p.m.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER Estelle, who was a Hawthorne High School senior at the time, started the Summer Student Theatre Program in town a few years ago during the COVID lockdown. "The main reason she organized this group was because the high school theatre club came to a halt during that time and it allowed those students interested to continue performing in an outdoor environment," her mom, Susan Barbieri, said. "It also allowed Estelle to pursue her passion as a writer and director." Estelle is currently a film major at Hofstra University. 3 firefighters hurt battling 4-alarm fire that burned through Hunts Point business
Three fighters were hurt while battling a four-alarm fire that burned through a Bronx business on Tuesday.The fire broke out in the business on Tiffany Street in the Hunts Point section just after 12:50 a.m.Heavy flames shot through the structure.It took hours for crews to get the fire under control.Three firefighters were taken to Jacobi Hospital.
