STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WJFW)- He's 77 years old and calls himself a "progressive constitutionalist." Meet William Schmit, a Wisconsin Rapids native and National Guard veteran. "For six years, at any time within 24 hours, we could be called up and go to Vietnam," Schmit, who served from 1966 to 1972, said. "I think the only reason our group did not end up there was basically that Wisconsin needed to know that there were protections here in case we had civil disorder again."
