A Park Ridge gas station attendant at Delta Gas was charged and accused of repeatedly overcharging customers, police said on Tuesday.

Police alleged the unidentified attendant at the Kinderkamack Road Delta would manually charge more money when customers would use credit cards. When called out on the discrepancy by drivers, the attendant pretended it was a mistake and gave back the money, police said.

A 30-year-old man from Westwood was charged after the PD detective Bureau investigated the matter for the past three weeks. The man was charged with one count of theft by deception. According to the investigation, the PD says they believe the owner of the gas station was unaware of the fraud happening.

Police said the overcharge by the attendant happened "several" times but did not specify.

The PD finished the release by reminding citizens to be aware of the refueling process and watch the final prices and charges to credit cards.
