Cox Mill's Braylon Whitaker taken in 19th round of MLB Draft by Baltimore Orioles
Cox Mill graduate Braylon Whitaker was selected in the 19th round, 579th overall, of the MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Whitaker, and outfielder, has committed to Wingate for college. This past season, he batted .500 with 39 hits, and 37 runs for the Chargers, having .619 on-base percentage with 1.350 OPS and 10 stolen bases. He drew 25 walks and struck out just five times.
Salisbury alumnus Vance Honeycutt drafted by the Orioles in MLB Draft's 1st round
Former Salisbury two-sport star and UNC junior Vance Honeycutt has been selected with the 22nd overall pick in the MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Honeycutt achieved notoriety nationwide with clutch hits to help the Tar Heels reach Omaha. He's also the Tar Heels' all-time leading home-run hitter (65), finishing his college career with 76 stolen bases, 205 runs scored, 170 RBIs, a Gold Glove award (first in school history), two ACC Defensive Players of the Year awards (first in conference history), and made six different publications' all-American teams in 2024. He hit 28 homers his junior year alone.

Tucker will start her new role as the school's first woman and Black athletics director on August 15, the university announced.She previously served as deputy athletics director at the University of North Carolina Wilmington."I am beyond thrilled to embark on this incredible journey as the new athletics director at UMBC," Tucker said. "As an athletics leader, my mission is to create a vibrant, infectious atmosphere that empowers student-athletes, coaches, and staff to reach unprecedented heights. BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four Navy athletes earned 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America honors for their respective athletic and academic endeavors this past season. Senior Braden Presser earned CSC First-Team honors after his successful season in the javelin, while carrying a 3.94 cumulative GPA as a mathematics major. The Mids earned three women’s track and field/cross country honorees. Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year Annie Taylor (4.00 GPA | Mathematics) earned first-team honors, while teammates Ellie Abraham (3.81 GPA | History) and McKenna Brophy (3.97 GPA | Ocean Engineering) garnered second-team honors.
