Air quality alert in effect for 6 Massachusetts counties until Tuesday night
An air quality alert was issued in effect until Tuesday at 11 p.m. for Southern Worcester as well as Middlesex, Essex, Hampshire, Hampden, Norfolk and Suffolk counties. "The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Alert for Ground Level Ozone, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday. An Air Quality Alert means that Ground Level Ozone concentrations within the region may approach or exceed levels that are Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Air is unhealthy for sensitive children and adults, such as those with asthma, lung or heart disease, and older adults. Sensitive children and adults should limit prolonged outdoor activity," according to the National Weather Service.

Now the institution is cutting 9% of its non-faculty employees, temporarily suspending staff retirement contributions, consolidating departments and having senior leadership take a year-long pay cut to make up for low enrollment numbers and FAFSA delays.

South Hadley nursing home staff protest over no pay, bounced checks
SOUTH HADLEY, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Employees at a South Hadley nursing home were seen outside the facility on Monday to protest what they said have been months of bounced checks and four weeks without pay. The staff at Pioneer Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center told us that they have been dealing with issues including those bounced checks, unpaid vendors and understaffing for five months, ever since the facility switched ownership, and now they are finally taking a stand.
