A fifth Wawa has been proposed for Escambia County.

The Pensacola Boulevard Wawa project is currently under review by the Development Review Committee (DRC) after being filed on June 11. Its developers will meet with the DRC this week to discuss the project before moving forward.

Should the project be approved, this would be Wawa's first location in the central Pensacola area and its fourth location on the west side of Interstate 110.

Four Wawa projects have been approved for development across Escambia County since last October.

At a groundbreaking event for Wawa's incoming store on Pine Forest Road, Director of Store Operations Joe Collins said the chain is planning up to 10 locations in the Pensacola market over the next five to eight years.

Out of Wawa’s four approved locations in the county, two stores are coming to Northwest Pensacola, one is coming to Ferry Pass and another is coming to Southwest Pensacola.

Wawa’s Ferry Pass store off of North Davis Highway was the latest project to receive the OK from the DRC, which was approved on June 12.

Here’s what we know about Wawa’s plans for their fifth store in Escambia County.

Where is Pensacola’s fifth Wawa planned?

The location of Wawa’s latest planned store in Escambia County is expected to be 6650 Pensacola Blvd.

The store will be 6,372 square feet and have 60 parking spaces, according to its pre-application set of site plans filed with Escambia County. Similar to its other approved locations, this store will have eight gas pumps and multiple charging spots for electric vehicles.

The site of this Wawa project is 2.59 acres and its land has not yet been developed, according to the project’s Information Form.

Access roads onto both North W. Street and Pensacola Boulevard are also planned as part of the project.

Where is Wawa across Escambia County?

Wawa has been approved to develop four locations across Escambia County, two of which are in Northwest Pensacola while the other pair are in Ferry Pass and Southwest Pensacola respectively.

The first Wawa project to receive approval is planned for 5888 W. Nine Mile Road. The second Wawa in northwest Pensacola broke ground off of Pine Forest Road in late April.

The chain’s third-approved project is planned for 9262 W. U.S. Highway 98 and received its development order from the county on May 29.

Wawa’s fourth store is coming to Ferry Pass after receiving approval on June 12. Its development is planned at 8530 N. Davis Highway.

The chain could have an additional location coming in Santa Rosa County after developers proposed a Wawa for the Pace area in March.

    Why is Wawa so popular?

Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, a Wawa offers all the things you'd expect from a convenience store − snacks, lottery tickets, drinks, tobacco, gas (at most locations), etc. − but they also offer a larger variety of fresh food than most fast-food restaurants such as their made-to-order, fan-favorite hoagies and the hot breakfast "Sizzli" sandwiches.

Wawa stores also are famous for customer service, scrupulously clean bathrooms, decent gas prices, free air for your tires and no-charge ATMs. In 2022 Forbes ranked them #12 in their Halo 100 list of brands that consumers love.
