The Pensacola Police Department arrested the assistant principal of Pensacola High School Wednesday afternoon for a sex offense for allegedly filming a teen girl undressing in the bathroom and her bedroom roughly five years ago.

A report states the victim, who was 17 years old at the time of the alleged offense, reported the alleged crime at the Pensacola Police Department Wednesday, stating she believed Sean Roby, who was suspended from his position as PHS's assistant principal after his arrest, filmed her undressing during a shower by holding a phone underneath the bathroom door.

"(Victim) recalled getting out of the shower and observing what (she) believed was a cellphone shaped object under the door where the vacant crack meets the flooring," police records say. "(She) stated the object was also black like Roby's phone was."

The victim told law enforcement that she observed this happen at least three times before beginning to place towels under the door or waiting until Roby had left the home to shower.

Although the she did not initially report the incident, in February 2022 Roby gave her his personal laptop to use for college coursework, saying he "has never requested it back." On Aug. 7, 2024, the she told law enforcement he noticed photos on the laptop had been connected to Roby's email account.

While looking through those photos, the she said she came across a 1-minute-and-13-second video dated March 13, 2019, that appeared to show someone outside of the home, filming through her through her bedroom window. The victim told law enforcement the bedroom matched the bedroom she stayed in while living with Roby.

The victim then showed the video to a PPD officer.

"I observed a subject walk from left to right within the room," the report says. "A white towel disrobes from the person and their buttocks is observed to be nude.

"The subject puts clothes on and walked within the room as the camera angle begins to move," the report added. "The subject holding the camera walked away from the area through bushes."

The officer noted in the report that the computer originally belonged to Roby and that the video was linked to Roby's account and email address.

Sean Roby faces five years in prison if convicted of the charge

The Office of the State Attorney filed a criminal case against Roby Thursday morning, charging him with video voyeurism, a third-degree felony.

When Roby was booked into Escambia County Jail, law enforcement officers initially arrested him for video voyeurism 19 years old or younger, which describes the age of the defendant and not the victim, according to Florida law.

After the state attorney filed Roby's case, the charge was corrected to video voyeurism 19 years old or older, signifying Roby is older than 19. The victim's age is redacted in the police report.

If convicted of the third-degree felony charge, Roby faces up to five years in state prison.

Escambia County Public Schools suspended Sean Roby following the arrest

Escambia County Public Schools told the News Journal they "can confirm the arrest of one of our employees yesterday, and are fully cooperating with our partners in law enforcement as their investigation unfolds."

"Out of respect for their investigative process, and in accordance with our policies as negotiated in our Employment Master Contract, we will not be able to provide further information at this time, other than to say this individual is suspended pending the outcome of the investigation," ECPS told the News Journal.
