Week 2 Roundup: Jay football tops Freeport after three-touchdown night from Jaymes Youngblood

Jay 34, Freeport 6: Is there something special about the number, 34?

Because Jay posted 34 points for the second consecutive game, and the Royals remain undefeated on the season after topping the Bulldogs.

It took until the second quarter for anyone to find the end zone. Jaymes Youngblood scored on a 5-yard run with around 11 minutes left in the second quarter. He scored again near halftime after Youngblood posted a 1-yard rushing touchdown. And, for good measure, he ran in for another one about a minute later on a 2-yard run.

Quarterback Hayden Morris kept the party going in the second quarter with under a minute to go, scoring on a 2-yard run. Jay rounded out its scoring with a 43-yard pass from Morris to Brady Godwin for a touchdown with about five minutes left in the third frame. Freeport finally responded late in the fourth quarter, but the damage had been done.

Youngblood finished the game with 159 yards rushing and three touchdowns. The team ran for 232 yards overall. Morris went 7-for-12 in the air for 118 yards, with Godwin hauling in 58 yards and a touchdown. Grayson Sheehan (32 yards) and Ross Durst (28 yards) had two receptions each.

Weston Salter led the defense with seven tackles. Godwin and Nick Baxley both recorded sacks. Morris had an interception returned for 42 yards, Sheehan also had an interception.

Jay (2-0) goes to Lighthouse Private Christian Academy next Friday at 7 p.m.
