Peoria Unified students greatly boost state art seals total

Peoria Unified School District saw 127 students earned 131 arts seals this year, demonstrating proficiency in a variety of arts disciplines from the Arizona State Seal of Arts.

The Arts Proficiency Seal is awarded to high school students who fulfilled a series of Arizona State Seal of Arts Proficiency requirements throughout their high school career and who demonstrate artistic literacy and a high level of competency in media arts, visual arts, dance, theatre, or music.

Students must also hold a 3.0 GPA or higher in each arts course, completing a minimum of four credits in their artistic discipline, and participate in a minimum of 80 hours of arts-related extracurricular activities. Finally, students must also submit a capstone project that demonstrates proficiency in their discipline.

The 131 arts seals awarded  represent an 86 percent increase from last year and represent all seven high schools and all art disciplines.
