Meet PHL17’s new Vice President and General Manager Lloyd Bucher

PHL17 is excited to announce our new Vice President and General Manager, Lloyd Bucher.

Mr. Bucher comes to WPHL and Philadelphia from Charlotte, North Carolina where he oversaw WJZY-TV (FOX), WMYT-TV (MyNet), and qcnews.com. as a Vice President and General Manager for nearly three years.

Philadelphia is no stranger to Mr. Bucher as he called Philly home for the first 35 years of his life (yes he is a Philadelphia Eagles/ Phillies fan).

Mr. Bucher succeeds our former Vice President and General Manager Vince Giannini, who retired earlier this month after a 20-year career at WPHL.

Throughout his career in Charlotte, Mr. Bucher successfully launched “Queen City News,”, spearheaded the creation and development of the morning lifestyle show, “Positively Charlotte,” was an instrumental part in forging a partnership with Charlotte FC, the city’s professional soccer team, and the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, enabling WJZY-TV to become the official “Home of the Panthers.”, and even helped re-launched the stations’ website as qcnews.com, “Carolina’s Own Queen City News.”.

“Lloyd has been successful everywhere he’s worked and consistently driven growth in ratings, revenue, and profit by seizing opportunities to forge new relationships with advertisers and marketers, creating and developing new programming, and deepening his connection to the local community.  He will be a great leader for our Philly media businesses.”

Prior to working in Charlotte, Mr. Bucher worked as Vice President and General Manager of WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, and held a variety of sales and marketing positions at television stations throughout Miami and Philadelphia.

Mr. Bucher graduated from Hofstra University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and began his professional career as an attorney, following his graduation from Widener University School of Law in 1993.
