D'Andre Swift shares his genuine thoughts on Eagles signing Saquon Barkley

The Philadelphia Eagles could have saved some big bucks had they offered running back D'Andre Swift just a little bit more rather than let him go to the Chicago Bears in NFL free agency.

Back in March, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Eagles attempted to re-sign Swift ahead of the new league year, but Swift chose to look at his options and landed a deal that was far bigger than the Eagles offered him.

Swift ended up signing a $24.5M deal with $15.3M guaranteed with the Bears, while the Eagles inked New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley to a massive three-year, $37.75M contract worth up to $46.75M with $26M fully guaranteed.

To some, this move by Philly could have been viewed as a slight slap in the face, but Swift, as genuine as he is, didn't see it like that.

Swift spoke to reporters at a youth football camp he hosted on Tuesday where he admitted that he's excited to see what Barkley can do in Philly.

"I wish everybody the best, and I want to see everybody succeed," Swift said, via Chris Franklin of NJ.com . "I’m excited to see what he does."

The Eagles acquired Swift, a Philadelphia native, in a trade with the Detroit Lions ahead of the 2023 season.

He ended up being the team's bell-cow in their backfield and ended the year producing a career-high 1,263 yards on 268 touches and five touchdowns. He also hauled in 39 receptions for 214 yards and an additional score. It was the first time Swift ever reached a 1,000-yard season, which earned him a Pro Bowl invite.

"It was all a part of God’s plan," Swift said. "That’s how I look at everything. It was amazing to be home for a year now, but now I’m on to different things."

Swift will now look to build upon his Pro Bowl season in Chicago with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Meanwhile, Barkley will play his part in helping Jalen Hurts and the Birds bounce back from a disastrous year.
