Eagles fans should have zero worries about Cam Jurgens replacing Jason Kelce at center

For the first time in 13 years, Jason Kelce won't be lining up at center for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Instead, third-year offensive lineman Cam Jurgens will take over Kelce's starting job.

Those are some big shoes to fill, but Jurgens has been preparing for this moment since the Eagles -- with the help of Kelce's scouting eye -- selected him 51st overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

“I played center in college and I played center right when I got here and now I’m back at center,” Jurgens told reporters during the first week of NFL training camp, via NBC Sports. “So that helps being able to feel a bit of the game out and being able to play those preseason games and get along with the team. Jalen was the quarterback back then when I was playing center all throughout camp and now I get to go through another camp with him. And so that communication just kind of picks back up and evolves throughout camp. I think that helps a ton.”

Other than a few preseason reps, Jurgens has seen very little action at center, logging just 43 snaps at that position while playing 709 snaps at right guard.

But having had the chance to learn and take notes from Kelce for two whole years has helped him out tremendously, which hasn't gone unnoticed by his teammates.

“I feel like now he’s a lot more polished,” Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson said. “He had a year at guard. I thought he played really well. Going back to center, he’s very strong. Kelce did a very good job of scouting him, I think he helped. As far as his movement and athleticism, he’s got everything you want. Now it’s just about getting reps and building continuity and getting the playbook down.”

The good news is we're still weeks away from Week 1 kickoff in Brazil against the Green Bay Packers.

But from the sound of things, the Eagles' offense might feel different without Kelce in the huddle, but it shouldn't look much different with Jurgens filling that void.
