Philadelphia Eagles' giant 2024 sixth-round pick wide receiver Johnny Wilson put in extra work outside of practice this spring and his efforts have not gone unnoticed, especially by quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Hurts took a moment during training camp to shout him out for going the extra mile in order to better himself.
"We did 1-on-1's the other day, and there was Johnny Wilson, shows up and makes two big-time catches, and I tell him, 'It's no surprise when you prepare for those situations,'" Hurts said. "He put the time in during the offseason and we spent that quality time together. It shows."
Eagles Won't Let Wilson's Massive Size Go to Waste
At 6-foot-6 and 231 pounds, Wilson is currently the NFL's tallest wide receiver.
While the Eagles have their starting receivers figured out for the most part, they are certainly not going to let his size go to waste and are determined to find a role for him.
But if one thing is for sure, he's not going to play tight end. Both Eagles' general manager Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni have made that abundantly clear right after drafting him.
For now, Wilson has been working in the slot and on the outside throughout training camp --- taking some first-team reps at both receiver positions.
And from what Sirianni said, it sounds like Wilson will only continue to take reps at both spots.
"[He's] big, physical, can bring an element of toughness and blocking to the group," Sirianni said. "As far as the No. 3 receiver, I mean, it can be a lot of different things, but you need different types of skill sets, and I'm really excited about the skillsets we have at the No. 3 receiver.
"...It doesn't have to be all from one guy, right? Not one person has to fill the role of anything. And it could. We're far away from having to play that and some games could look different than others."
We'll be able to get a better look at the Eagles' plans for Wilson when they have their first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on August 9.
