A 37-year-old Kansas man was arrested Monday in connection with the death of a woman on Valentine’s Day 2021 in northwest Kansas, officials say.

The man was booked into the Phillips County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, interference with a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by an intoxicated person, the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office said.

The arrest stems from the death of 43-year-old Janna Lea Constable of Phillipsburg. Deputies from the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office responded on Feb. 14, 2021 to a shooting in the 600 block of 7th Street in Phillipsburg.

Officials say the incident resulted in the death of Constable, but did not provide additional details on how she died.

Constable’s obituary said she died at her Phillipsburg home. She was born in Wichita, where she lived for a few years before her family moved to Phillipsburg. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1995, her obituary shows.

She was a mother of three who enjoyed cooking, drawing, spending time at the lake, fishing, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

“Her grandson McKennan was her pride and joy,” her obituary said.

The man remained in jail Tuesday afternoon on a $125,000 bond. His arrest coincides with what would have been Constable’s 47th birthday.
