Pat’s King of Steaks celebrates 94 years of cheesesteaks

Philadelphia, PA – PHL17’s Tyrone Sharper caught up with Pat’s King of Steaks to uncover how this Philly staple got its start serving up cheesesteaks in the city for over 94 years now.

Pat’s recently renovated their building and expanded the menu to include chicken steak and breakfast sandwiches.

The storefront started as a simple hot dog stand, until one day when Pat decided to switch up his lunch. He threw some chop meat on the hot dog grill and put it on a roll with some onions. When a local cab driver who ate hot dogs everyday insisted on trying Pat’s new lunch, he excitedly urged, “Wow, this is really great – start making these instead of hot dogs.”
