ESPN Analyst Issues Brittney Griner, Mercury Warning To Aces

Can the Phoenix Mercury--led by Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner--threaten the Las Vegas Aces and contend for the title this 2024 WNBA season? For ESPN women's basketball analyst LaChina Robinson, that's not a question at all.
Speaking on ESPN's "First Take" on Monday, Robinson shared her belief that the Mercury are more than equipped to be title contenders this 2024 season and even topple the Aces from the top.
In explaining her case for the Mercury preventing the Aces from going for a three-peat, the 43-year-old analyst and commentator noted that Phoenix has the talent and experience that could push the team to the championship. She particularly highlighted the presence of Taurasi, Griner, Kahleah Copper and Natasha Cloud as huge factors.
“When you look at this roster, they have all the proven experience you could want. They got two players that have been Finals MVP [Taurasi and Copper]. Of the four players named, they have won championships with three different organizations," Robinson said, via AZ Central.
Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi (3) holds back Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner (42) after a foul call in the second half against the Chicago Sky at Footprint Center.
“Kahleah Copper has been a bucket this season, more 30-point games than she has [had] in her career. Brittney Griner playing with a renewed sense of purpose, and Diana Taurasi not just drinking from the fountain of youth, she got a whole cooler at the house. This is a team that is ready to compete for a championship."
Robinson also heaped further praise on Cloud and Griner. The former has been on point as a defender and playmaker, while the latter has been dominant on both ends of the floor--to the point that the ESPN analyst said "there's no answer" for Griner.
The Mercury are currently seeded sixth in the WNBA at 8-8, but they have actually won four of their last six, including victories against the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx. They did lose to the Aces in their most recent battle, albeit by just four points.
As Robinson pointed out, the Mercury can really be dangerous once they fully click and get things going.
