It was reported on Wednesday night by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that the Houston Rockets want to trade for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant. While there has been no indication from Phoenix that they are planning to trade the star forward, Houston is in pursuit of a star this summer, and Durant is atop their list.
Suns owner Mat Ishbia has already publicly shut down any idea that Durant could be dealt this summer, addressing the rumors in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). In addition to Ishbia shutting down these rumors, Durant's agent Rich Kleiman also shut down any idea his client will be dealt:
Kleiman's comment was made under an Instagram post from Bleacher Report that specifically highlighted Houston's belief that a trade for Durant is easier after acquiring Phoenix's picks in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets.
The thinking behind this belief from Houston is that any Durant trade would likely begin a rebuild for Phoenix, which is a much more attractive situation for a team possessing their own picks. If the Suns do plan to enter a rebuild, acquiring their own picks from Houston is something that could entice them.
While this scenario could play out at some point, it will seemingly not be this summer, as the Suns are intent on running this group back in pursuit of a championship.
Swept in the first round this past season, Phoenix is currently very far from a championship contender, but they have invested a lot into this team and plan to run it back next season.
