WNBA All-Star's Bonus Money Compared to What NBA Players Earn Is Shocking

The WNBA announce their 2024 All-Star selections on July 2, an elite roster that will face off against Team USA at Footprint Center in Phoenix on July 20.

The All-Star team is decided by a combination of votes by fans (50%), current WNBA players (25%) and a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters (25 %). For the 12 players selected -- Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is expected to the make the All-Star squad her rookie year -- they not only get bragging rights, but also earn bonus money for their participation.

WNBA All-Star selections earn a $2,575 bonus. Compared to what NBA players make for their All-Star selection, that number is shocking low.

While NBA All-Star winners used to bag $50,000, a new collective bargaining agreement brought that number up to $100,000 in 2018. NBA players on the losing team still rake in $25,000. So, the WNBA All-Stars make approximately 10% of what losing men's roster earn.

The WNBA All-Star MVP earns $5,150. The winner of 3-point contest and skills competition winner each earn $2,575. Participants selected for those two contests earn $1,030.

The NBA player who wins the 3-point contest earns $50,000. First place in the skills contest receives $50,000.

With the WNBA's explosion in popularity, attendance, and viewership, however, players can expect to see an income boost in the very near future. However, they will need to fight for it with a new collective bargaining agreement.

USA Today's Josh Peter predicted, "Before the Nov. 1 deadline, the Women's National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) will opt out of the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) set to run through 2027, with added star power."
