Speed appears factor in deadly 3-car crash: Phoenix PD

Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a three-car collision that killed a man and sent two others with serious injuries to a hospital Saturday night.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash that occurred about 9:15 p.m. July 20 near 19 ^th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, according to a department release.

Preliminary information suggests that a vehicle traveling west on Bethany Home Road collided with another vehicle after the second vehicle made a westbound turn onto Bethany Home Road from 19 ^th Avenue.

Both vehicles “were displaced into oncoming traffic, causing a second collision with a third vehicle traveling eastbound on Bethany Home Road,” the release stated.

The man who died was the driver of the third vehicle.

The man driving one of the vehicles and the woman driving the other had serious injuries and were taken to a hospital. Another adult from the collision was released from a hospital after being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Charging decisions will be made once the accident reconstruction process is complete, police said.
