The Phoenix Suns had a disappointing NBA Playoffs season that ended in a four-game sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Suns pack plenty of talented players led by Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, but are in the process of transitioning to a new system with Mike Budenholzer expected to serve as the team's new head coach this fall.

The news was shared by Rick Barry, who said he was happy about his son's accomplishment.

"I'm happy for him that he is getting the opportunity to do something that he has wanted to do," Rick Barry said. "I think any parent always wants the best for their children."

Brent Barry has not coached yet in the NBA.

Rick Barry intimated that his son will bring a fundamentally sound approach to the game, a characteristic the Gregg Popovich discipline Budenholzer will almost certainly appreciate.

"He's a player who knows and appreciates how important it is to be fundamentally sound," Rick Barry said according to AZCentral.com .

"Plus, he's had tons of experience in various areas of the game. Being on championship teams is always a great education."

Brent Barry won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 1996 with the Los Angeles Clippers before revamping his game and becoming a stalwart defender and passer for the Spurs later in his career.

He later went on to win two league titles with Coach Popovich's Spurs in 2005 and 2007.
