Phoenix Mercury and Team USA star Brittney Griner did not have the WNBA All-Star Weekend she wanted in terms of competitive success.

Griner didn't just get to perform in front of her Phoenix home crowd during the All-Star Game, but she also took part in the Skills Challenge on Friday.

Although it didn't go well for the WNBA icon.

Griner finished in last place in the Skills Challenge, and even airballed one shot attempt.

Yet, considering that the competition is typically dominated by guards, the 6'9" Griner competing in the first place was impressive.

During the WNBA Orange Carpet on Thursday night, Griner revealed why she decided to take part in the Skills Challenge.

"It was kind of a last minute thing," Griner said. "And I was like, you know what? That would be kind of fun. That would be kind of dope to do. So then that's how that happened."

Griner's Mercury teammate Sophie Cunningham also performed in the event, and made it to the final round before finishing as the runner-up.

Although it didn't go her way, props to Griner for putting her skills to the test.
