Syracuse, N.Y. — More than 1,000 people were without power near Syracuse after storms blew through the region Monday evening. The outages were concentrated in the northern suburban towns of Clay and Salina, according to National Grid’s website. Power was expected to be restored to the 1,290 affected customers around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

MONTOUR FALLS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Several people who live in a Schuyler County mobile home park were displaced after severe storms ripped through the Twin Tiers Monday evening. Another year of growth for Saint’s Place
Saint’s Place helped 198 refugees in May—its busiest month ever. The fiscal year is shaping up to be the most successful year yet, with over 1,500 new refugees assisted. The Pittsford-based nonprofit also helped set up 285 homes and bedding for 1,100 new beds with pillows, blankets, two sets of sheets and a comforter. It has also distributed more than 450 backpacks to children of refugees this year, another milestone.
