A man gunned down on the driveway of his Carolina home pleaded with his mother "momma I can't breathe" as he lay dying in her arms.

Corey Ryder Vickery, 21, of Easley was on the drive of his mother's home when he was shot at around 9.30 pm on Saturday. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a 911 call was made with officers arriving at the scene to see a man with gunshot wounds and a woman trying to perform life-saving measures.

Corey was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Now his mother has made an emotional plea for help from the public as she revealed her son was expecting the arrival of his first baby in October and described the devastating events of Saturday evening on a GoFundMe page.

Nicole Moon wrote on the fundraising site: "This is my son Corey Rider Vickery, he was only 21 years old when he was murdered in the driveway of our house on Saturday August 3 at 9:28pm. My son was about to be a new father to a baby girl that is due in October and now he will never get the chance to even know what being a father is, all because of a senseless act of violence!

"My baby boy took his breaths while laying in my lap bleeding to death and fighting for his life saying 'Momma I can't breathe' and telling his wife that he loved her with the last bit of strength he had in him! My baby boy did not deserve what happened to him, no one does and no mother should ever have to watch their child die before their eyes and always know that I couldn't save my baby, because that is a mother's job, to fix it when their child is hurting and I couldn't fix my baby, I couldn't make better, I could only hold him and tell him it was gonna be ok and I loved him as he his soul prepared to leave this earth."

Nicole continued her heartbreaking dedication to Cory writing: "Cory was truly wonderful a son, a brother, a husband, an Uncle, a cousin, a friend and til the end til his very last breath he was a fighter! Cory was my twin, we were so alike in the best ways, we are passionate especially about the people we love and we have the biggest heart and my son had the biggest and best heart, he had a kind heart and if he loved you then he loved you with all he had!

"Cory had so many dreams for his life and the lives of his little family and now he will never get to fulfill any of those, all because someone thought that it was ok to take his life and rob him of the chance to even know what it was like to hold his baby girl and be the father he had always dreamed of being!"

Nicole then shared how Corey had been helping to care for all of the family after both his father and grandfather had passed away as she begged others for help for the family to pay for the funeral and for childcare costs for his unborn baby. She continued: "My son was the heart beat of our family, what little family we have left, we lost my husband last August to cancer and my Dad to cancer the previous January so Cory took it upon himself to be the man of our family and take care of us all and now he can't because he was gunned down in front of his own home for nothing and until my baby gets his justice our little family needs help.

"We were not prepared for this in any way shape of form, there wasn't no life insurance and no money put up and my son was doing everything he could to take care of his little family but he was the provider for his family and now he is gone and we have a baby coming and trying to get through all of this emotionally and mentally was hard enough, not only are we gonna have to pay for a funeral we have a whole family to take care of without my son here!"

She concluded: "Here I am as a mother of a murdered son who was our whole world asking humbly for any help that anyone wants to give to our family. Thank you in advance to anyone that helps and any kindness shown to our family!" Anyone with information regarding this incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 864-898-5500 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.
