Second Lil’ Govs Fun Run Tonight
Once again tonight, and every Tuesday in July, Pierre Cross Country coach Jim Keyes and the cross country team will be hosting the Lil’ Govs Summer Cross Country Fun Run. It will happen over the next three weeks, every Tuesday in July starting at 5:30 which will be down at the Griffin Park Tennis courts. The athletes will run on the bike path along the river and then turn and run back through the middle of the park. There will signage for kids to run a half mile, mile or two miles with the kids deciding how far they want to run. The goal of the runs is to grow the sport of cross country and have fun while doing it. It is for kids aged kindergarten through fifth grade.

Zap Walk Off Bison for Fifth Straight Win
Friday night, the Oahe Zap would get a walk off on a two run single from Noah Wiggins to beat the Bison Baseball team 10-9 an extend the winning streak to five. Both teams had five run innings, but the Zap would lead 3-2 after five. The five run sixth and a run in the seven gave the Bison an 8-3 advantage before the Zap would rally for five runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game. The Bison would score its automatic runner on second in the top of the tenth, but it would be the two run single from Wiggins to win it. Oahe had 10 hits as Wiggins, Vince Polizi and Tyler Martin each had two hits. Wiggins would triple and Polizi would double. Jake Hutter would get the win on the mound going the final two innings only allowing the automatic runner to score against him.

Post 8 Travels to Sioux Falls to Face West
Another big doubleheader is on tap for Pierre Post 8 as the Eights will travel to Sioux Falls area for the first of three times this week, taking on Sioux Falls West today. The Eights are 6-13 in South Dakota games and are closing in on clinching a spot in the playoffs which will be in a week and a half. Pierre potentially needs just one more win to guarantee a spot in the playoffs this season. However, with still six games remaining, plenty of wins can bring a high quality playoff spot and a better chance at making the state tournament. The Eights face West today, a team above them in the standings sitting at 9-13 in South Dakota games and in ninth place. Pierre faces both West and Brandon Valley in the first two doubleheaders this week, the two teams right above them in the standings as the Eights sit in 11th place.

Rapids Soccer Falls in PKs in National Championship
The Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club U19 girls would fall in the National Championship game of the US Club Soccer NPL Finals on Monday with a 2-2 score and 4-3 in penalty kicks. Two Pierre Governors represent the the Black Hills team as Ireland Templeton and Brianna Sargent would play on the national runner team. Templeton will head into her senior year for the Governors while Sargent will be at Black Hills State to play for the Yellowjackets in the fall.
