    Pilot Mountain woman killed in Carroll County, Va. wreck

    A Pilot Mountain woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning.

    The Virginia State Police said Martha D. Crocket, 40, of Pilot Mountain, was killed when her 2010 Hyundai Elantra left the road and crashed into a tree.

    According to the police. she was heading westbound on Route 97, also known as Pipers Gap Road, near Crooked Creek Road, when the vehicle crossed the centerline, went off the road to the left, and struck a tree.

    The wreck occurred at 7:40 a.m., according to the state police.

    “The driver of the Hyundai, Crocket, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt,” according to the Virginia State Police report. “The crash remains under investigation.”
