Public can check out telescope from Piqua library
Piqua Public Library patrons can check out more than just books or movies. The library now has a telescope available at the circulation desk. People can check out the telescope for up to seven days. As long as it is available, it can be checked out by any adult with a valid ID and a library card.
Governor DeWine appoints Kendell to Miami County Municipal Court
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Tuesday announced the appointment of Anthony Kendell to the Miami County Municipal Court. Kendell, of Piqua, will assume office on July 22, 2024, and will be taking the seat formerly held by Judge Gary Nasal, who retired. He will serve the remainder of the unfinished term and will need to run for election in November 2025 to retain the seat.
New fingerprinting devices coming to local courts

Poultry Days serves record numbers
VERSAILLES — Poultry Days sales of World-Famous Chicken dinners increased from 37,000 last year to 39,400 over a beautiful weekend. For the first time the festival offered limited business sales on Wednesday and Thursday preceding the festival in an effort to serve area businesses. The extra effort was the result of businesses asking the festival to serve all three shifts. Final sales were 15,000 on Friday, 14,000 on Saturday, 9,000 on Sunday and 1,400 on Wednesday and Thursday. All numbers point to Versailles being the home of the Worlds’ Largest Chicken Barbecue. The festival has served 1,213,685 dinners since 1952.
VRHC raises funds for Alzheimer’s
VERSAILLES — The residents and staff of Versailles Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center participated in the “The Longest Day” campaign on June 20th, to raise funds and awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease. During the community event held on the day with the most light – the summer solstice – they raised $2,170 to benefit those with memory loss diseases and their caregivers.
