PITTSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A man is charged after he led troopers on a multi-county chase ending in an hours-long standoff, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Sunday.

At about 10:54 p.m. Saturday, troopers said they initiated a pursuit on I-87 near I-440, east of downtown Raleigh. They did not say what started the chase.

A PIT maneuver was attempted, but unsuccessful in bringing the vehicle to a stop, according to highway patrol.

Soon after, NCSHP said law enforcement lost sight of the suspect vehicle and discontinued the pursuit.

Overnight, troopers said the suspect was found pulling into his home on Cornwallis St. near downtown Pittsboro.

According to investigators, the man fled from his vehicle into the home and attempts to have him come out were unsuccessful.

The NCSHP said the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office and the Pittsboro Police Department assisted in the standoff.

At about 5 a.m., troopers said they arrested the man, who they identified as 47-year-old Chad Vernon Clark.

They said no members of the public, the suspect nor law enforcement officers were hurt during the pursuit or the arrest.

Clark was taken to a hospital for impairment evaluation and has since been taken to the Wake County Detention Facility, according to the NCSHP.

    He is charged with:

    • Felony fleeing to elude arrest
    • Speeding
    • Reckless driving
    • Driving while license revoked
    • Failure to heed to lights or siren

The NCSHP said additional charges are expected.
