It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that the Pittsburgh Steelers have a pecking order on their depth chart that won’t be easily rearranged.

That’s true for vets vs. rookies, incumbents vs. free agents, and especially for Russell Wilson vs. Justin Fields.

And after compiling data from DraftKings Sportbook, Jared Dubin of CBS sports told all Steelers fans what they should already know.

Wilson vs. Fields has a heavy favorite

The Steelers have also been pretty forthright about their expectation that Wilson will start under center. That seems unwise to me given that he is on a one-year deal and will turn 36 years old this season, and is therefore definitely not the team's long-term answer. But the Steelers love nothing more than ensuring that they don't fall under .500 no matter what instead of shooting for upside, so Wilson probably will indeed start. - Jared Dubin, CBS Sports

The oddsmakers at DraftKings give Wilson -750 odds of being the starter to Fields’ +450, along with a whopping, 88% implied odds of winning and holding onto the job.

But the fact of the matter is that Pittsburgh has told you from the jump who the starter is. Sure they have been open about getting Justin Fields reps in camp, but to me, that’s more of an emergency plan than a competition. But you don’t have to take my word for it, just listen to some of the most tenured members on the Steelers Beat.

"Zero. I just don't think there's enough time for that," The Athletic's Mark Kaboly told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh when asked about the chances Justin Fields starts Week 1. "It's more than just being a quarterback. It's being a leader, taking those guys to dinner. It's being that type of leader that they haven't had in a number of years now. So I don't worry about Justin Fields right now. I think you worry about him next year..

"...Sometimes he [Justin Fields] looks like Ben Roethlisberger out there, and sometimes he looks like Mark Malone out there. To be honest with you, that's just how I view it. He needs some more work to be done. You can see the talent. He's easily the most athletic guy out there. I mean, he just makes people look like fools out there in this setting. But you've got to be consistent, and that's what the issue was in Chicago."

And for what it’s worth, whether it was Mike Tomlin saying that Russell Wilson had pole position from the jump, or what coaches have told media members , it was never going to be a true competition. Steelers fans just hope Pittsburgh is riding with the right guy.
