Former NFL QB thinks the Steelers' decision on who starts at QB in 2024 should be a no-brainer

For all the discourse surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers QB situation, there is a clear frontrunner at the moment.

That man is Russell Wilson, who might have already wrapped up the perceived QB competition before training camp even begins.

So when asked who would give the Steelers the best chance to win, former number two overall pick Robert Griffin III had an easy choice:

RGIII: Russell Wilson over Justin Fields

"It's Russell Wilson, 100 percent," RGIII told ESPN's Get Up . "He had a top-five touchdown to interception ratio last year. He's been there and done that. This team is ready to win right now, and it's the perfect time for Justin Fields to sit back and learn from Russell Wilson."

The argument for Wilson is that the team needs a veteran signal-caller who can lead an offense and perform in big moments, something Wilson has a history with as a 9x Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion.

But if you're a Fields supporter, the idea is that you have seen what Wilson has been over the past three seasons, and you have this young and talented dual threat who could potentially be the future of your franchise.

But RGIII is living in the best of both worlds, as he thinks Wilson is the best choice to start but Fields can be utilized in multiple ways.

"This year [Mike Tomlin] doesn't have just one, but two dynamic quarterbacks that bring an element of playmaking with their style of play. So that's why I wanna see the Pittsburgh Steelers utilize Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at the same time," Griffin said in a clip from his podcast posted on X . "How do you do it? You create a red zone package for Justin Fields, call it the Field Zone package. Allow him to use his athleticism and his running ability to punch in touchdowns...

"...You can build RPOs off of that, which he excelled at in college. You can build boots and keepers and nakeds off of that to keep the defense off balance and allow him to stretch the field and it get his feet wet and allows him to have an impact on the game. He's way too dynamic of a playmaker to be on the sideline the entire time."

I like the idea on paper, but we have done this song and dance with two QBs. There is a reason why the cliche: "If you have two QBs, you have no QB," exists. So we'll see exactly how everything plays out, but for now it's obvious that Wilson will be the team's starter.
