The Pittsburgh Pirates announced they have placed Bryan Reynolds on the major-league bereavement list Thursday, which requires a minimum stay of three games. That means the All-Star outfielder will miss at least two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend.

Reynolds was a late scratch from Wednesday’s 5-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals with what the Pirates said was back spasms but watched the game from the home dugout. It was the first game Reynolds hasn’t played all season. He leads the team with a .288/.353/.485 slash line, 18 home runs, 61 RBIs and 117 hits in 101 games.

The Pirates said in a statement that they will add another player to the roster for Friday’s game and “will announce that move accordingly.” His replacement on the active roster could be infielder/outfielder Ji Hwan Bae, who was added to the major-league taxi squad per their Triple-A affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians.

In an unrelated move, the Pirates traded minor-league outfielder Gilberto Celestino to the Chicago Cubs. The 25-year-old Celestino batted .271/.348/.356 with 11 doubles, three homers and 25 RBIs in 67 games for Indianapolis.
