PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local non-profit organization and volunteers from the community came together in Luzerne County. Their mission is to help out a family in need of a home.

Having a place to call home is something that some of us take for granted.

It is the goal of Wyoming Valley Habit for Humanity to ensure everyone can have a nice place to call home. Their most recent project is in Pittston and they have been working on the home for about four months.

“It’s a single-family home it’s about 1252 square feet and it’s three bedrooms one bath and it’s just a nice new home for somebody with a small family,” said Bob Sherlinski the job site supervisor for the Wyoming Vallet Habit for Humanity.

The help of volunteers like Astound Broadband keeps this project going, especially in the summer months when it’s harder to find help.

“Well the summer is especially difficult to get volunteers throughout the school year you know we have the colleges and universities that typically come and volunteer with us but in the summer really, really hard to get groups especially big groups like this and so it’s been very helpful and you know we’ve done a lot like they did the entire siting,” explained Natalie Davidson a volunteer coordinator for the Wyoming Valley Habit for Humanity.

Volunteers can lend a helping hand in many ways

“This is a very valuable experience and we’re thankful for our volunteers and all the support we get from our community. We not only have people who come out on the build we also have people who donate lunches and people who work in our board and coordinate you know floorplans, and how to build a house and donate materials and so a lot of that is just bringing the community together to support these families.” continued Davidson.

Sherlinski says helping give a family a place to call home is rewarding.

“There’s nothing better than making sure that these families have a nice place to live so it’s enjoyable,” added Sherlinski.
