A loss against rival Moosup didn’t sit well with Danielson manager Jacob Tarryk. The defeat also may have awoken a sleeping giant.

After losing the first game of a three-game set in Plainfield, Danielson rolled to a 15-0 victory Wednesday at Owen Bell Park’s Ben Desaulnier Field.

“It feels good to finally break out,” Tarryk said. “We had a tough loss last night to these guys but the guys bounced back today. They took what I said to them to heart and they came ready to play. I was glad to see it.”

Danielson didn’t waste any time. Keon Lamarche (3-for-3, three RBIs) blasted a two-run double and Dominik Kubera and Jake Beaudreault delivered run-scoring singles in a four-run first inning.

“We got after it in the first inning,” Tarryk said.

Danielson (2-9) sent 14 batters to the plate in the third inning. Highlights included RBI hits from Drew Bundy, Ben Jax, Anthony Demarco, and Lamarche as Danielson’s lead ballooned to 13-0.

“Sometimes we have a full roster, and sometimes we don’t,” Moosup manager Steve Tarbox said. “We didn’t have our full team today.”

Moosup (2-11) topped Danielson, 9-3, the previous day.

“We’re a very young team. Slowly and surely we played some really solid games and fortunately we were able to win one,” Tarbox said. “I was very happy for these guys. They’ve worked hard.”

A former Plainfield High third baseman (Class of 1990) and Moosup Legion alum, Tarbox is doing his best to keep the program alive. Jewett City has disbanded this summer, while Zone 6 staples New London, Niantic, and Ledyard/Pawcatuck also no longer field teams.

Tarbox has pieced together a roster with players from Plainfield, Lisbon, Killingly, Norwich Tech and Ellis Tech.

“Ultimately, in the end the kids are playing,” Tarbox said. “They have a place to play and a place where they don't have to pay to play, which is great. Moosup is probably one of the only teams left that doesn't charge to play American Legion baseball.”

Moosup mustered just one hit against Danielson starter Anthony Demarco, a lead-off single by Owen Williams in the top of the fourth. Demarco (2-for-4, three RBIs) then ended things with a two-run double that invoked the 15-run rule in the bottom of the fourth.

“I was happy to get this one,” Tarryk said. “Hopefully, we can continue. If we can start getting on a roll here, there is no doubt in my mind we can be one of the top teams in the zone.”

American Legion Baseball celebrated our nation’s birthday with games throughout the country.

On the local scene, Danielson (3-9) topped Moosup (2-12), 18-10, in the rubber match of a three-game series; Zone 6 leader Waterford (13-1) completed a three-game sweep over Norwich (6-7) with a 4-2 win at Waterford High School; and second-place Tri-Town (8-4) topped Willimantic, 6-1, to win the three-game series at Tourtellotte High School.
