White Castle in Trotwood to become 24-hour operation on weekends
As White Castle is strengthening its “Night Castle” branding, a location in the Dayton region is planning to expand its hours to accommodate late-night Cravers. Tommy Loveberry, White Castle’s regional director in Cincinnati, said the Trotwood location has plans to be open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays before the summer ends.
Mundy to perform in Troy
TROY — Fridays on Prouty concert series will host the Ryan Mundy Band on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. Mundy comes from Springfield, with what he calls “rockin’ country music.” His style combines country threads of sweet soulful life-longing lyrics with red-hot-rock edges to make a modern country sound. He is a six-time nominee for the Josie Music awards at the Grand Ole Opry House for Best Male Vocalist in 2022 and for Song of the Year for “On You” and Best Music Video for “Truck Thang” in 2023. Ryan Mundy is an Ohio-original and a rising force in the Ohio country music scene. He is a hardworking, tireless performer with a bright vision for his style. His latest recording is “Payin My Dues,” which speaks of his energy and determination.
Cupcake decorating contest July 11
PIQUA — The Piqua Community Farmers Market is holding its annual Cupcake Decorating Contest on Thursday, July 11. There is no entry fee and pre-registration is NOT required. Anyone interested in participating will need to bring six cupcakes – three for the judges and three to share. Bring your cupcakes to the Piqua Community Farmers Market located on High Street in front of the Piqua Public Library on Thursday, July 11 by 5:15 p.m. Participants may enter more than one type of cupcake and Farmers Market vendors may participate. Judging will take place at 5:15 p.m.
Noah Wotherspoon Band performs in Troy
TROY — Noah Wotherspoon revealed his exceptional guitar skills by the age of 11. As a young teenager he had his own band called Noah and the Stratocats, who won a spot on the prestigious Chicago Blues Fest stage when he was just 16. The Stratocats played the Chicago Blues Fest for the next eight years. In 2015 Noah received the Albert King award for Best Guitarist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. Wotherspoon started as a kid from Dayton, Ohio who had an affinity for the guitar, but he soon found himself touring America and performing at the world’s Blues Festivals. He has toured Eastern Europe many times and was the headliner at the Reykjavik Blues Festival in Iceland and the Salva Jazz & Blues Festival in Salvatierry, Mexico.

VERSAILLES — The Towne & Country Players want the community to be “a part of their world” as they put on Disney’s The Little Mermaid July 17th through July 20th. This adventure follows the youngest of King Triton’s daughter’s, Ariel, played by Julia Graber. She is a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. Longing to find more about the world beyond the sea, Ariel visits the surface and falls for the dashing Prince Eric, Anthony Kellner. Following her heart, Ariel makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, Anna Libertini, to experience life on land.
Public can check out telescope from Piqua library
Piqua Public Library patrons can check out more than just books or movies. The library now has a telescope available at the circulation desk. People can check out the telescope for up to seven days. As long as it is available, it can be checked out by any adult with a valid ID and a library card.
Concert series will feature Solistic
TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center will host Solistic on Tuesday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. This wildly creative band hails from Dayton, and includes Khrys Blank and Eric Reith on percussion, Brad Denson on bass, Josh Johnson on drums, Eric Henry on guitar and Damien Dennis on keys. They call themselves a “multi-genre collective” of musicians from a variety of backgrounds and influences producing their own version of “funky original rock.” We might slide from rock to jazz to somewhere in bluesland without realizing we’ve been traveling. It will be a lucky night at the Hayner with this percussion-led soulful sound.

Warren Haynes Band Preps A Hybrid Rock-Symphonic Experience For The Buckeye State
Perennial blues-rock workhorse Warren Haynes is taking a break from his regularly scheduled duties as the leader of Gov’t Mule this summer to turn his attention to a pair of passion projects. The Now Is The Time Tour featuring the Warren Haynes Band and the Dreams and Songs Symphonic Experience features two sets of symphonic music plus a third set of Haynes’ signature rock-soul blend alongside the debut of the new Warren Haynes Band. The domestic summer leg of Warren Haynes’ tour will culminate on Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th with a pair of Ohio shows at the Rose Music Center at The Heights in Huber Heights and PNC Pavilion (formerly known as Riverbend Music Center) in Cincinnati, respectively.

RiverScape Cafe Announces New Seasonal Menu and Hours
A favorite local cafe is adding new items and extending its hours for the summer season. This summer, the RiverScape Cafe, located at 111 E. Monument Avenue, will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with happy hour specials from 5 to 7 p.m. RiverScape management says that afternoon crowds are not as heavy as they were pre-COVID, so a shift to evening hours makes sense for the cafe. The shift to later hours also provides the opportunity for the RiverScape Cafe to offer an elevated menu including a variety of flatbread pizzas, appetizers, and desserts. RiverScape also now offers a variety of summer cocktails, beer, and wine, as Five Rivers MetroParks was issues a permanent alcohol permit.
