    Plover pushes past Wausau Legion baseball

    PLOVER – Plover exploded four seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings and went on to defeat Wausau 7-1 in an American Legion baseball game Wednesday at Memorial Field.

    Caden Werth singled home Luke Smogoleski in the top of the fourth to give Wausau a 1-0 lead.

    Wausau had runners on base in each of the next three innings but couldn’t push another run across.

    Plover scored four times in the fifth inning and Braylen Nystrom hit a three-run homer in the sixth to push the Black Sox (18-12) to the victory.

    Nystrom struck out 10 over 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.

    Tony Iaffaldano went the distance on the mound for Wausau, striking out four and walking three.

    Wausau (13-18) hosts D.C. Everest on Thursday at Athletic Park starting at 7 p.m.
